Informationen zum Lied
Im frühen 18. Jahrhundert entstand der Text zu "Joy to the World", der von dem englischen Liederschreiber Isaac Watts im Jahr 1719 in der Sammlung "Die Psalmen Davids in der Sprache des neuen Testamentes für den christlichen Stand und Gottesdienst" veröffentlicht wurde. Der Inhalt basiert auf Psalm 98 der heiligen Bibel.

Die Musik stammt von Lowell Mason, der 1836 die Melodie vom Chor "Hoch tut euch auf" aus dem Messias von Händel adaptierte.

Joy to the World gehört in Großbritannien zu den beliebtesten Weihnachtsliedern und wurde im Laufe der Zeit von vielen Größen des Musikgeschäfts gesungen.

Libera verwendet von dem originalen Text die Strophen 1, 2 und 4, die Strophe 1 wird hinten noch einmal dran gehängt. Einzelne Textzeilen wurde noch ein wenig abgeändert.
