	Informationen zum Lied
	"Onward Christian Soldiers" wurde 1871 von dem englischen Priester, Dichter und Schriftsteller William Sabine Baring-Gould geschrieben. Das Lied war als Prozessionsmarsch für Kinder gedacht und hatte ursprünglich eine langsame Melodie, die von Joseph Haydns Symphonie in D, Nr 15 genommen wurde. Nachdem Arthur Sullivan dem Text die neue Melodie "St. Gertrude" vergab, erreichte das Lied eine größere Beliebtheit, die bis heute anhält. Im englischsprachigen Raum ist das Lied bis heute in vielen Gesangbüchern enthalten und auch in Deutschland ist es in der deutschen Übersetzung (Vorwärts Christ Streiter) noch im Apostolischen Gesangbuch zu finden.
