Informationen zum Lied
Die Verfasserin des Liedtextes Frances Ellen Watkins Harper lebte von 1825-1911 in Baltimor und Philadelphia. Bereits mit 20 Jahren veröffentlichte die Tochter freier Schwarzer ihren ersten Gedichtsband, dem weitere folgten. Frances setzte sich in ihrem Leben gegen die Sklaverei und für Frauenrechte ein.
